General information
Background
SARS-CoV-2, which causes the global pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), belongs to a family of coronaviruse. The nucleocapsid protein (N) was one of the structural proteins of SARS-CoV-2 (Spike protein (S), Envelope protein (E), Membrane protein (M), and Nucleocapsid protein (N)). The N protein of SARS-CoV-2 shares little homology with nucleocapsid proteins of other members of the coronavirus. N proteins of other coronavirus have been reported to be involved in forming the viral core and also in the packaging and transcription of the viral RNA.
